We welcome the four 2016 NEES Travel Grant Award recipients to share their research and travel experience with the broader NEES community. These internal NEES travel grants were part of the NEES Center initiatives to encourage research collaboration and the exchange of 'best practices' among the different NEES research locations.
Our guest panelists are all early career scientists, including both post doctoral researchers and graduate students:
- Yuxiao Lin in Yue Qi's group, MSU - visited Chunsheng Wang's lab at UMD for 3 months in the summer of 2016. He worked on modeling & simulation of the transport mechanisms pertaining to aqueous electroyte/electrode interphase-forming additive.
- Martin Edward in Henry White's group, Utah - visited Chuck Martin's lab at University of Florida in Nov, 2016. Martin worked on developing the theoretical description of the ion transport and electrokinetic phenomena observed in nanoporous membranes.
- Xin Sylvia Li in Mark Reed's group, Yale - visited UMD, Rubloff & Lee's groups during the Fall and Winter seasons, 2016-17. Sylvia's work was on the Nanofluidic Battery Cell - Ion Transport near Electrodes under Nanoscale Confinement.
- Zoey Wareckiin John Cuming's group, UMD - visited Katie Jungjohan, Sandia NL in Albuquerque, NM in Jan/Feb, 2017. Zoe's goal was to adopt the sealed electrochemical cells designed at Sandia NL to the University of Maryland transmission electron microscopy (TEM) setup, in order to study degradation mechanisms on the nanoscale.
