Speaker:

Xin Sylvia Li is a graduate student in Mark Reed's group at Yale University. She will be presenting her recent experimental result based on collaborative research effort with members from Lee's and Rubloff's groups while visiting University of Maryland at College Park. The collaboration was made possible by the NEES Collaboration Travel Grant.

Title:
Nanofluidic Battery Cell: Ion Transport near Electrodes under Nanoscale Confinement

Abstract:
Highly confined electrolyte environments become inevitable when electrodes are densely packed to achieve an ultra compact battery with maximum capacity. The study of ion transport under nano-confinement between electrolyte/electrode interfaces is essential for understanding the underlying science. Utilizing atomic layer deposition (ALD) for tunable energy storage materials, we have developed a novel platform of nanofluidic battery cells to investigate energy storage and conversion at the nanoscale with well-defined systems as well as minimum averaging effects.
