NEES PI Gives Memorial Lecture to Ceramics Society
Bruce Dunn, the Nippon Sheet Glass Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at University of California, Los Angeles and a principal investigator with the Nanostructures for Electrical Energy Storage Energy Frontier Research Center of the Department of Energy, gave a prominent lecture at the recent American Ceramics Society meeting.
The invited lecturer for the Edward Orton, Jr. Memorial Lecture is an honor given by the society for “scholarly attainments in ceramics or a related field”. Dunn is an ACerS Fellow and a member the World Academy of Ceramics. He serves on several editorial boards, including the Journal of the American Ceramic Society. A continuing theme in his research is use of sol-gel methods to synthesize materials with designed microstructures and properties. His ongoing work on electrochemical energy storage includes 3-D batteries and pseudocapacitor materials.
Dunn was chosen by the lecture committee for designing ceramics for next-generation energy storage systems, which is also the title of the plenary lecture he presented on October 25 at the 188th annual meeting in Salt Lake City, UT.
